The Origins Of Massage

Although the Egyptians influenced the Greeks to use massage therapy in many different ways, it was Hippocrates, the ‘Father of Medicine’ a Greek physician, who developed the Greek practices and techniques such as ‘friction’, to treat physical injuries in which it assisted the body to heal itself.

The Greeks started practicing massage between 800 and 700 BC which was introduced by athletes and philosophers who exercised massage to keep their bodies in peak condition prior to competitions.

The origin of the word Massage comes from the French massage ‘friction of kneading’ or from Arabic Massa meaning ‘to touch, feel or handle’ or from Latin Massa meaning ‘mass dough.’  Jacinta is the Greek form for ‘Beautiful’ as massage is such a beautiful healing treatment that helps heal injuries and enhances a relaxed state for stressed muscles and the mind.
